Blogs are a wonderful source of information, whether casual or looking for more information. Methods of blogging include product reviews, educational posts, ideas, and more. Blogging is like journaling, except it is public. Bloggers can generate revenue from posting and including ads.
To start a blog, you need to know what it is you are going to blog about. After determining the topic, you would move on to the target audience. Whitney Bonds explains how to match keyword searches for a target audience using Google. Whitney states that she will start blogging by “promoting a product or service in my articles that I’m writing so I can make money through affiliate marketing…” as a first step (Bonds, 2022) The best way to reach a target audience is through search engine optimization (SEO). When starting a blog, it is more of a focus on the website. WordPress is a method to help build a website.
In the YouTube video How to write a technical blog post by Quincy Larson, Larson goes into how to write technically designed for a reader. Technology is so expansive and there are different levels of knowledge in technology. Reaching the audience would depend on whom you are writing for. Are you writing for the novice just learning about technology? Are you an expert, trying to reach a higher educated level? Larson offered some fantastic advice. “Substance takes hard work. Expect to put an hour or more into every minute the reader will spend reading.” (Larson, 2017) The second point Larson’s second point is the presentation.
As a proponent to watch the news daily, through various sources to get a well-rounded view, headlines are important. The click-bait format can be misleading and finding well-documented sources that are truthful and honest are incredibly hard to find. If a technical blog were to be started, the format should be in list format. It would be simple, and easy to navigate and understand. Reaching a technical base, flashy and gaudy would not be appropriate.
Finding a topic to blog about can be challenging. Experts everywhere blog to share their wealth of knowledge. It is challenging to dedicate the time to blog and have your time pay for itself. There is a need for increased bloggers in the technical industry, especially for novices working on learning the field, and even for personal reasons. Major purchases, such as a computer, television, or other technical devices – blogs can help in making the most educated decision. Blogs are a wonderful source of information, whether casual or looking for more information on a topic.
